Opportunity Requirements:
Grade Level: Must NOT be enrolled Tier 5
Description for Mid South Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Youth Program
- Earn $3,500 to $5,000 for participation in full program
- Gain valuable workplace skills and hands on experience with a local company
- Access to all services of WIOA program including mentoring, career counseling and achievement incentives
- Virtual working assignments are being requested from local companies to assist with pandemic impact
- Transportation assistance and additional support items may be available for youth needing to work physically at a job location
- Tuition assistance grants available after successful completion
In-School Youth (ISY)
An ISY is an individual who is:
(a) ATTENDING HIGH SCHOOL OR POST-SECONDARY SCHOOL
(b) 14-21 AT THE TIME OF ENROLLMENT
(c) A LOW-INCOME INDIVIDUAL;
PLUS ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:
(1) BASIC SKILLS DEFICIENT
(2) AN ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER
(3) OFFENDER
(4) HOMELESS
(5) FOSTER YOUTH*
(6) PREGNANT OR PARENTING
(7) INDIVIDUAL WITH A DISABILITY
(8) INDIVIDUAL WHO REQUIRES ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE TO COMPLETE EDUCATION OR SECURE EMPLOYMENT
*An individual in foster care or who has aged out of the foster care system or who has attained 16 years of age and left foster care for kinship guardianship or adoption, a child eligible for assistance under sec. 477 of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 677), or in an out-of-home placement.
Out-of-School Young Adult (OSY)
An OSY is an individual who is:
(a) NOT ATTENDING ANY SCHOOL
(b) 16 -24 AT THE TIME OF ENROLLMENT
PLUS ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:
(1) SCHOOL DROPOUT
(2) WITHIN SCHOOL AGE BUT HAS NOT ATTENDED SCHOOL FOR AT LEAST THE LAST SCHOOL CALENDAR QUARTER
(3) OFFENDER
(4) HOMELESS
(5) FOSTER YOUTH*
(6) PREGNANT OR PARENTING
(7) INDIVIDUAL WITH A DISABILITY
(8) A LOW INCOME INDIVIDUAL WHO REQUIRES ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE TO COMPLETE EDUCATION OR SECURE EMPLOYMENT
(3) HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE (OR EQUIVALENT) WHO IS LOW INCOME AND, EITHER, BASIC SKILLS DEFICIENT OR AN ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER
